After Touring Doctors, Brit Finally Receives Correct Diagnosis Using AI

Oliver Moazzezi, a British computer consultant who was suffering from various symptoms after being bitten by a tick, consulted several doctors without obtaining satisfactory answers. He then turned to an AI that made the correct diagnosis.

Is artificial intelligence as competent as doctors? It’s a question worth asking at a time when many people are turning to tools like ChatGPT for health reasons. This is what the British Oliver Moazzezi ended up doing, reports the BBC.

As a computer consultant, he used to go to the gym three times a week and swim regularly, but he can’t do that anymore. This was due to a tick that his cat brought him and that bit him three years ago. He then began to suffer from tinnitus, then high blood pressure, extreme fatigue and muscle spasms.

Oliver Moazzezi then decided to turn to an AI, which diagnosed him with Lyme disease, an infectious pathology caused by bacteria and transmitted by the bite of infected ticks.

Diagnosis confirmed by a doctor.

The computer consultant obtained this diagnosis by indicating these symptoms to the AI and specifying that he had been bitten. “I asked her to consult verified medical sources… and I didn’t tell her about Lyme disease, she was the one who told me about it,” said this man who regularly uses AI, believing that it helps him optimize his research.

Doctors explained to him that these symptoms could be related to anxiety and that his tinnitus was the result of hearing loss, diagnosed during an ENT examination.

After consulting the AI, Oliver Moazzezi had the good instinct to go to a doctor for a test that came back positive for Lyme disease. If tools like ChatGPT are really capable of diagnosing certain diseases, they are far from replacing doctors. In particular, they can make mistakes. This is why it is advisable to confirm or deny your diagnosis with a health professional.

Oliver Moazzezi has since started treatment that has helped calm some of his symptoms, including tinnitus.
