France’s Stéphanie Frappart, who will become the first woman to referee a men’s World Cup next Thursday, believed she will have to channel the “great emotion” to become a good referee in Costa Rica-Germany.
“I will have to control the emotion to concentrate on the pitch. I will feel a lot of emotion to enter a World Cup stadium, which will certainly be full and where there will be a lot of expectations,” he said in statements to the FIFA.
Frappart, one of three women nominated for the 2022 World Cup, will lead today’s encounter between Costa Ricans and Germans in the third and final round of Group E.
“When did I know [da nomeação] The emotion was huge, I didn’t expect it, I’m very proud to represent France at the World Cup,” he said.
Frappart, who was also the first woman to direct a match in the Champions League, the European and the French league, assured that her goal is to “make a good match”.
“I have to concentrate on the game because I will have to make good decisions. You perform well when you concentrate on the essential goal, the pitch,” he said.
Frappart, 38 years old, was already the fourth referee in Mexico-Poland and Portugal-Ghana, the latter won 3-2 against the Portuguese and thus adds a new historical milestone to her career on the one hand and the equality of men and women in the football.
International referee since 2009, the Frenchwoman was the first woman to direct a men’s European competition match, in the 2019 European Super Cup, the first in a Champions League and French League match, and in 2021 she also refereed a qualifier for the Mundial2022 , where he will now make more history.
The Frenchwoman is one of three women nominated for the tournament and on Thursday she will have Brazil’s Neuza Back and Mexico’s Karen Medina as line marshals, with Honduran Said Martínez as fourth official.
