Qatar has already started dismantling stadium 974, which contains containers

The dismantling of stadium 974 began this Tuesday, one day after the seventh and final match of the 2022 World Cup, to make way for green and recreational areas.

Brazil’s 4-1 victory over South Korea for the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup was the last game at the stadium, which has played host to six other games in the competition, including Portugal’s debut against Ghana, 3-2, on November 24, against Group H.

Constructed from 974 shipping containers, named this way with the country’s phone code (+974), the fence is the first of three match stadiums to disappear after the round of 16.

In the morning of this Tuesday, all tarpaulins and grilles around the stadium have been removed, while the adjacent areas have been cleaned, a process that will take place before the end of the 2022 World Cup.

The work cost an estimated €300 million and became the first demountable stadium in World Cup history, allowing for quick assembly and disassembly.
