Dominik Livakovic was once again the Croatian hero this Friday by saving a penalty against Brazil, ensuring Croatia’s place in the World Cup semifinals.
The Croatian goalkeeper immediately saved the first Brazilian penalty, taken by Rodrygo, and left the Canarinhos at risk of elimination.
Without a chance, the Croats converted their shots until Marquinhos, the fourth Brazilian attacker, hit the post and signed the elimination of the team led by Tite.
In the middle of the game, Croatia, semifinalist in 1998 and finalist in 2018, will face, at the terça-feira, in Lusail, at 7:00 p.m. (in Lisbon), the winner of the clash between Argentina and the Netherlands, who will still face each other this afternoon.
Goals only in extra time
After 90 minutes of goalless regulation time, we had to wait until the end of the first part of extra time for there to be celebrations in the stands, and they were in Portuguese.
Neymar started from the center aisle, counterattacked Rodrygo, then Paquetá, brought down goalkeeper Livakovic and fired to make it 1-0, equaling Pelé’s record for goals in the Brazilian team: 77.
The Croats knew how to respond when the curtain fell, when Orsic finished off on the left and crossed for Petkovic who, forgotten by the Brazilian defensive line, scored the equalizer.
