Didier Deschamps remains France’s coach, whatever happens during this World Cup. The news was reported yesterday by the newspaper Le Parisien, which guarantees that the coach has already made the decision – on the part of the French federation it was decided, since the tie would be automatically renewed if he reached the semi-finals of the World Cup reach Cup, which is already a fact (they play against Morocco on Wednesday).
Thus disappears the possibility expressed some time ago that the future coach would be Zinedine Zidane, who has not trained since leaving Real Madrid because he had the dream of leading France.
Incidentally, Zidane has declined several invitations since he left the technical management of the meringues in May 2021, a club for which he won three Champions Leagues and two Spanish championships, among other things.
According to Le Parisien, Deschamps has already made the decision and his contract will be automatically extended until Euro 2024, meaning he will complete three European Championships after also adding three World Championships.
Deschamps, 54, was asked about this at the press conference after the game against England, which France won 2-1. “Everything in its time. It was good that we achieved the goals of the president of the federation, he is happy, as are the fans. I want to enjoy the fact that we are again among the top four teams in the world.” But at the moment I only think about the game against Morocco,” said the coach, without opening the game.
The French coach has been in charge since July 2012, when he replaced Laurent Blanc. In 2016, he lost to Portugal in the European final. But then he became world champion in 2018 and won the League of Nations in 2020/21. As a player he also became world champion (1998) and European champion (2000). Now he can become a two-time World Cup champion, but for that he will have to overcome Morocco and then beat the winner of Argentina-Croatia in the final.
