FC Porto, national soccer champion, and Gil Vicente compete this Wednesday for a place in the ‘final four’ of the Soccer League Cup, to face Académico de Viseu, from the II League.
The ‘dragons’ seek their first trophy in the competition, after reaching the final four times, in the 2009/10, 2012/13, 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, just like Minho’s team, which played the decisive game in 2011/12.
FC Porto, second placed in the I Liga, won Group A, with seven points, after drawing with Mafra (2-2), from the II Liga, and beating Desportivo de Chaves (2-0) and Vizela (4-0) ), both of the main echelon.
Gil Vicente, who occupies 16th and third from last place in the championship, was in first place in Group E, also with seven points, also starting with a draw, against Sporting da Covilhã (2-2), continuing with victories against Nacional ( 2-0) and Portimonense (0-3).
The match scheduled for the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at 8:15 p.m., will be refereed by Manuel Mota, from the Braga association.
The winner will then face the ‘secondary’ Académico de Viseu in the ‘final four’ of the 16th edition of the competition, which will be held for the third consecutive season at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria, between January 24 and 28, 2023.
