Former national coach Fernando Santos has been nominated as a member of merit of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), a title that will be adopted for approval at the next general meeting, the organization announced on Wednesday via its official website on the internet.
“The Board of Directors of the FPF, at Tuesday’s meeting, approved the proposal to award the title of Member of Merit to former national coach Fernando Santos. The unanimously approved proposal must now be submitted to the next General Assembly of the Federation to be submitted for approval.”, the institution says in a brief note.
The FPF recalls that, in accordance with its statutes, namely Article 18, Chapter III, the title of member of merit “may be bestowed in recognition of relevant services to the FPF, to regular members or to football”🇧🇷
The 68-year-old Fernando Santos left command of the Portuguese national team last week, a few days after the defeat with Morocco (0-1), which dictated the team’s elimination at the ‘quinas’ in the quarter-finals of the Mundial2022. .
The coach, who has been at the helm of the Portuguese team for eight years since October 2014, gave Portugal its first two international trophies at senior level, winning Euro 2016 and the 2019 League of Nations.
