The Public Prosecution Service (MP) on Wednesday asked for Rui Pinto, creator of the electronic platform Football Leaks, to be jailed for 89 of the 90 crimes he is accused of in the trial.
In the latest allegations of the Football Leaks trial, which began on September 4, 2020, Public Prosecutor (MP) prosecutor Marta Viegas believed that the only unproven crime was computer sabotage at Sporting’s SAD.
According to the MP, Rui Pinto’s illegal access to the email accounts of Sporting employees, including Bruno de Carvalho, former president, and Jorge Jesus, former coach of the football team, “was not the reason for the fall of the system, that was already down”.
“At that time, the actions of the accused did not have the effect expressed in the indictment.” rsaid Marta Viegas, I understand that for this reason the crime of computer sabotage at the Sporting SAD has not been verified, as indicated in the indictment.
Marta Viegas also considered it proven that the other defendant in the case, lawyer Aníbal Pinto, should be convicted of attempted extortion, of which he is accused.
Rui Pinto, aged 34, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of unauthorized access, 14 of breach of correspondence, six of unlawful access, targeting entities such as Sporting, Doyen, the law firm PLMJ, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and also for computer sabotage to Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in the form of attempted murder. This last crime concerns Doyen and also led to the verdict of lawyer Aníbal Pinto.
Doyen is seeking a prison sentence of four to six years
Doyen, an assistant in the Football Leaks trial, asked this Wednesday for the application of “an effective prison sentence, possibly between four and six years”, for Rui Pinto for the 90 crimes he is charged with in the trial.
In the closing arguments of the case, Sofia Ribeiro Branco, lawyer for Doyen Sports Investments, believed that the crimes of attempted extortion and unlawful access allegedly committed against the investment fund had been proven.
Considering all the crimes, the lawyer defended the application of an effective punishment, suggesting that a “any suspended sentence must be subject to injunctions”, among which he mentioned the closure of the Football Leaks website, the return to victims of illegally obtained information and the payment of damages to Doyen, who will return to Associação Coração Amarelo.
The alleged crime of extortion, in the attempted extortion, also led to the ruling of the lawyer Aníbal Pinto, with Sofia Ribeiro Branco not quantifying the sentence, stating: “Being a professional colleague, we believe that the court will know how do them justice”.
Doyen’s lawyer believed that the “practice of extortion has been demonstrated” and all of them referred Rui Pinto’s behavior “was thought with absolute intention”, add: The defendant was fully aware of the wrongdoing.
Sofia Ribeiro Branco said that “the defendant’s position was never consistent with genuine sincere remorse”, adding that Rui Pinto, whose behavior in court he criticized, showed remorse only insofar as he alluded to the situation the actions placed him in.
Prior to Doyen’s allegations, Sporting’s lawyer, another entity who became an assistant in the trial, believed that Rui Pinto committed “the crime of computer sabotage” against the leonine SAD, contrary to what the prosecutor defended ( MP).
In the morning, at the start of the first session of the final arguments, the MP asked for Rui Pinto, the creator of the Football Leaks electronic platform, to be jailed for 89 of the 90 crimes he is accused of in the trial.
