Roma hopes to continue to count on Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, despite news that the Portuguese Football Federation plans to hire him as national coach, replacing Fernando Santos, who resigned after the World Cup in Qatar.
“If we commit to a coach like Mourinho, we have to be prepared for rumours. In 18 months, it is not the first time that another club or association has shown interest in him,” said Roma general manager Tiago Pinto.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the manager recalled that he is also Portuguese and that is why he feels that every time he changes coach in Portugal, Mourinho’s name is immediately spoken. “But we intend to continue with it,” Tiago Pinto assured.
Jose Mourinho’s chance at the position appeared in the press after Fernando Santos left office following the national team’s performance at the World Cup in Qatar, a competition that saw them knocked out in the quarter-finals by Morocco (1-0).
Jose Mourinho, who turns 60 on January 26, joined Roma in the summer of 2021 and is on contract until 2024.
