Benfica SAD informed the market on Monday that the company and the members of the Board of Directors for the period 2016-2020 still in office were charged, in a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).
Two days after the club confirmed that the sports society had “been constituted on January 3, as well as, inherently and among others, the members of the Board of Directors in the period 2016 to 2020 and who are currently in office,” the ‘incarnated’ SAD reports this situation to the CMVM.
“Benfica SAD confirms that, taking into account the news made public on January 7, 2023, the company, as well as, inherently and among others, the members who were part of its Board of Directors in the period from 2016 to 2020 and who are currently in exercise, defendants were constituted in the framework of a process that is in secret from justice, ”read the statement released today.
On Friday, Diário de Notícias announced that “a process will supposedly be at stake in which crimes derived from pirated emails to Benfica are investigated and where other processes were added, such as the ‘bonuses’ and the ‘bye suitcase'”. .
According to the DN, the defendants are Rui Costa, current president of the club, Domingos Soares Oliveira, Luís Filipe Vieira, José Eduardo Moniz and Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro, all of them administrators or former administrators of the Benfica company.
The newspaper added that the objective should be to avoid possible prescriptions, since many of these investigations have been carried out for several years, revealing that “no one has been the subject of any questioning.”
“Benfica SAD has expressed its total availability and openness to collaborate with the competent authorities, as has always been the case up to now”, concludes the statement sent to CMVM.
