FIFA opens disciplinary file against Argentina for celebrations in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Russia

FIFA opened a disciplinary process against Argentina for alleged offenses and offensive behavior by its players during the celebrations for the 2022 World Cup, which took place in Qatar, the organization announced on Friday.

According to the statement from FIFA, there is a possible lack of respect for the organization’s media and marketing returns, which occurred during the Zona Mista after the final, in which the Argentine players were recused from talking to the foreign journalists and also damaged the material that was in the place.

“A disciplinary process was opened to investigate the existence of offensive behaviors and violations of the principles of the fair play by Argentina,” the statement read.

On December 18 of last year, in the 2022 World Cup final in Lusail, the Argentine team won the trophy after beating France 4-2 on penalties, after 3-3 registered in extra time.

The French federation also complained about the behavior of the South American players, especially their alleged disrespectful attitudes towards striker Kylian Mbappé.

During the celebrations on the field, the goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez even placed the prize for the best goalkeeper of the competition (a glove) next to his genitals, in an attitude recorded by television images and also by photojournalists.

For now, FIFA has not set any deadline for the resolution of this disciplinary process.

For the discriminatory behavior of their fans in the matches in Qatar, FIFA imposed fines on Mexico (100,000 euros), Serbia (50,000 euros) and Ecuador (20,000 euros).
