Italian tennis player Camila Giorgi, who is participating in the Australian Open, has denied accusations that she used a fake Covid-19 vaccination certificate to travel.
A doctor is being investigated in Italy for providing false vaccines and certificates, Giorgi’s name appears on a long list of people implicated by an Italian newspaper.
On Tuesday, after beating Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the Australian Open, Giorgi confirmed that she had consulted the doctor in question and said she had done nothing wrong.
“I did all my vaccinations in different places, so it’s her problem, not mine,” said the athlete. “Having said that, I’m very calm,” she added.
Giorgi pointed out that she was vaccinated by the Italian doctor and by medical authorities from other countries.
The tennis player’s father, Sergio Giorgi, was sitting at the back of the room where the press conference took place today at Melbourne Park and, at the end, expressed his disbelief that no questions were being asked about tennis.
Before the tournament, the chief executive of Tennis Australia, which organizes the tournament, said he was not fully aware of the allegations about the fake certificates.
