The Portuguese player Afonso Sousa, who plays in the Polish soccer league, believes that Fernando Santos can help Poland achieve great things, as he did for Portugal. The midfielder who has been at Lech Poznan since 2022 ensures that the language barrier will not be a problem and considers that the Portuguese coach fits well in the Polish team.
For Afonso Sousa, Fernando Santos “can add the knowledge he has” to the Polish team, since “he worked with great players, did great jobs, won the only titles Portugal has,” he explained to TSF.
The midfielder formed by FC Porto does not foresee that Fernando Santos will be pinched after the last Portuguese coach who guided Poland left the team in a controversial way.

Paulo Sousa left Poland to sign for Flamengo, shortly before the Poles played the World Cup access play-off in Qatar. The president of the Polish Football Federation accused, at the time, Paulo Sousa of having “extremely irresponsible behaviour”.
Now, the helmsman of the Polish team is once again Portuguese and the player Afonso Sousa believes that the language barrier will not be a problem. “In Poland, fortunately, people speak very good English and I think Fernando Santos fits well in the project because he has already had some jobs outside the country.”
Poland is the third team guided by the Portuguese coach who has already gone through Greece and Portugal. The press conference to present Fernando Santos as the Polish coach is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. in Lisbon).
