Roller hockey referee Nuno Catanho was suspended this Friday for statements he posted on social media about Thursday’s soccer match between Sporting Braga and Benfica. Although the statement from the Portuguese Skating Federation does not mention the name of the referee, the publication of the Madeira referee stands out.
“I pay a thousand euros in cash to the individual who shows me a video of the teeth and nose of the Braga-Benfica referee tonight”, can be read in Nuno Catanho’s publication.
Now, the Portuguese Skating Federation has opened an investigation before the Disciplinary Council.
“The FPP repudiates the statements of the referees and their way of being in sport. This Federation defends the values of ethics and fair play in sport and will do everything possible to guarantee its promotion in its competitions and with its sports agents”, wrote the Portuguese Skater. Federation in the statement.
Sporting de Braga qualified on Thursday, for the 19th time, for the Portuguese Cup semifinals, beating Benfica 5-4 on penalties, after drawing 1-1 at the end of extra time.
In the semifinals, which will be played over two legs, Sporting de Braga will face Nacional, from the II Liga, who eliminated Casa Pia, winning 5-2 after extra time.
The other semifinal will face FC Porto, holder of the trophy, against Famalicão, who on Wednesday beat Académico de Viseu and BSAD, respectively.
