Francisca Martins improved her absolute Portuguese record in the 200-meter freestyle this Saturday, during the Arena Lisboa International Meeting 2023, in the Complexo do Jamor pools.
The FOCA – Clube de Natação de Felgueiras swimmer triumphed in the distance, with a time of 2:00.96 minutes, improving the previous maximum that had already belonged to her since 2022 (2:01.30).
“I felt like I could beat my personal and national record. I had come from an internship at height where I had a lot of work, a lot of load, a lot of training, but after the meeting in Póvoa de Varzim I felt very good. I feel that I am not fast, but I hold the second half well. I think I never did such a good second half,” he said, as quoted on the Portuguese Swimming Federation website.
Another highlight is Diogo Ribeiro, who won the 50-meter butterfly in 23.77 seconds, in a race in which the world record holder, the Ukrainian Andriy Govorov, was third, in 24.36.
Tiago Neves broke the adapted national record in the 100 breaststroke (S15), with 1:13.66 minutes.
