The women’s team returns to the pitch the day the earth trembled

After a strong cyclone, the country felt a magnitude 6.0 earthquake near the city of Wellington, 526 kilometers from Hamilton, where the Portuguese team trains.

A source from the Portuguese Football Federation assured the TSFthat the earthquake was barely felt in the place where the Portuguese delegation is training to prepare for the “play-off” match for access to the Women’s Soccer World Cup.

On the return to the pitch, coach Francisco Neto had summoned the 25 players, including Andreia Jacinto, who landed in Auckland in the last few hours.

Diana Silva was the spokesperson for the team this Wednesday and did not hide her happiness at her return to the pitch, “for us it is great to be able to train again like this. Finding each other,” said the Sporting player.

The Portuguese international highlights the importance of the preparation match against New Zealand, scheduled for this Friday: “It’s an advantage to be able to prepare for a match like this, against a strong team like New Zealand,” said Diana Silva.

The ‘quinas’ team seeks to secure one of the last three places in the final phase of the World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand, from July 20 to August 20, 2023.

The qualifying match, with the winner of the Cameroon-Thailand duel, to be played on Saturday, will be on February 22, at the same Waikato stadium, in Hamilton, where Portugal seeks to reach a soccer World Cup for the first time.
