The stadiums of Luz and José Alvalade are not subject to municipal property tax (IMI), a source from the Chamber of Lisbon clarified to the Lusa agency this Thursday, as they are “owned by legal entities of public utility”.
This question of ownership extends beyond the ‘home’ of Benfica and Sporting to Estádio de Pina Manique, owned by first division club Casa Pia, and Estádio do Restelo, owned by ‘historic’ Belenenses, currently in Liga 3.
As for Luz, the enclosure of the incarnated beings is not covered by IMI, also because it is a classified building, the same source said.
At issue is the possibility of the IMI charging IMI to sports venues, similar to what it will do with drafts, despite the fact that several clubs are exempt because they have public utility status and/or their stadiums are considered property of municipal importance.
On Wednesday, the management of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) met in Porto, later to express “concern about the financial impact” that IMI’s eventual collection to sporting venues could bring.
The LPFP also asked for an assessment of the impact of the measure on the Financial Working Group.
