The Frenchman Simon Banza, from Sporting de Braga, was chosen as the best player of the month of August in the I League and also as the best striker, the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) announced this Saturday.
With five goals scored in the four rounds held last month – the first in the competition -, the top scorer in the championship received the preference of most of the coaches of the first division teams, surpassing the competition of Benfica fans João Mário and Enzo Fernández, second and third most voted, respectively.
Banza, 26, who signed for Sporting Braga earlier this season, also won the best striker award in August, ahead of Gonçalo Ramos (Benfica) and Aziz (Rio Ave).
Benfica, who lead the I Liga with six wins in six games, dominated the distinctions in the first month of competition, with Morato being chosen as the best defender and Enzo Fernández as the best midfielder, while Roger Schmidt took the award for best coach.
Ricardo Batista, goalkeeper of the newly promoted Casa Pia, who has the best defense in the league along with the ‘encarnados’ (three goals conceded), was distinguished as the best goalkeeper in August.
