Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis this Saturday broke the pole vault world record, which he already owned, by setting a new maximum of 6.22 meters on the All Star Pole, in Clermont-Ferrand.
Duplantis strengthened by an inch the figure he already had in 2022, when he became world champion on July 24, 2022, in Eugene, USA, and this Saturday he reached 6.22 meters, on the third attempt, after two zero tests.
Australian Kuris Marschall was second, with 5.91 metres, a personal best, and Dutchman Menno Vloon was third, with the same length.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, and the 2022 world champion, has held the discipline’s record since 2020, when he reached 6.17 meters in Torun, Poland, on the European indoor track, and has been improving the record ever since.
The Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie, who had the previous maximum of 6.16 meters, organizes the All Star Perche (Road), in Clermont-Ferrand.
“It’s incredible, I don’t even know what to say. (…) Breaking this world record with Renaud is incredible. Without him I could never jump that high”, declared the 23-year-old, in tribute, after taking the record.
In all, there are six tests that have raised the bar for the pole vault world record, always by an inch, having achieved the feat three times in 2022 alone, adding the first this year to the fourth competition he entered.
Considered one of the greatest ‘stars’ of world athletics, ‘Mondo’ Duplantis, 23, is an Olympic, World and European champion in pole vault, of which he holds the world record, with 6.22 metres, and added the title in Torun2021 ‘inside’ of the continent, not the same gold under tile in the Worlds, in which it was silver in 2022.
The US-born Swedish athlete always jumped above six meters in 2023, but has decided not to participate in the ‘indoor’ Europeans, which take place in Istanbul, Turkey, between Thursday and March 5.
