The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, congratulated the two-time European champions Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Auriol Dongmo on Friday for the results achieved on the European indoor track, in Istanbul.
in a note published on the website of the PresidencyMarcelo highlights that the titles “are their merit, the result of great commitment and dedication to the respective sports, but also an affirmation of Sport in Portugal as a means of inclusion, integration and social development”.
Pedro Pablo Pichardo, 29, achieved a jump of 17.60 meters at the Ataköy Arena, improving the national record set the day before, and added a new European title under mosaic to the Olympic, world and European outdoor title, in a final in which Tiago Luís Pereira was fourth, with 16.51.
Auriol Dongmo, 32, managed to defend her title two years ago, confirming her favoritism as world champion insidewhen she threw 19.76 meters, the best world mark of the year, in a final in which Jessica Inchude was fourth, with 18.33.
With the gold from Dongmo, Portugal already has 28 European medals inside17 gold.
