The Public Ministry (MP) carried out raids in the Azores and in various parts of the continent on suspicion of alleged illegitimate use of money from Santa Clara through transfers to administrator accounts, the MP revealed on Monday.
According to the note published on the website of the Central Directorate for Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP), searches were carried out at residences in Ponta Delgada, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Moimenta da Beira, Espinho, Lisbon and also in Madeira. Law firms located in Lisbon and the Azores and three companies in the Azores were also searched.
“At stake are events likely to constitute the practice of the crimes of money laundering, economic participation in business, embezzlement and breach of trust,” stressed the parliamentarian, who added that the DCIAP investigation has the support of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Azores Judicial Police (PJ).
