The Public Prosecution Service (MP) archived the investigation opened following complaints from Rio Ave players, namely a minor, about alleged sexual harassment by coach Miguel Afonso in the 2020-21 season. “The practice of the crime of sexual harassment of a minor by the accused in relation to the victim is not charged, I determine, without further consideration, the archiving of this data, as sufficient evidence has been collected that no crime has been committed.”can be read in the final order signed by the MP magistrate of the Vila do Conde section sent to DN.
The underage athlete in question was 16 years old when she made statements to the MP and was the only one of the players who denounced the then Famalicão coach to the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the Union of Players, who agreed to speak during the judicial investigation, which aimed to establish the existence of a crime of sexual harassment.
