Roy Hodgson returns as Crystal Palace manager, replacing Patrick Vieira

English coach Roy Hodgson replaces Frenchman Patrick Vieira at the helm of Crystal Palace, which he directed between 2017 and 2021, the London club, 12th-ranked in the English Football League, announced on Tuesday.

“It is a privilege to be invited back to coach a club that means a lot to me and to be entrusted with the important task of improving the current situation,” Roy Hodgson, 75, said in a statement released by Crystal Palace.

The former coach of England, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates pointed out that “the only objective is to start winning games, which will allow us to obtain the necessary points to ensure maintenance in the Premier League.”

Patrick Vieira, 46, was sacked on Friday, leaving the club from the English capital in 12th place, three points above the relegation zone, after a very negative cycle in 2023, in which they suffered six defeats and conceded five league draws.

A somewhat predictable scenario at the turn of the year, due to a start to the 2022/23 season that continued the good campaign carried out in the previous season, but the date of December 31, 2023 marks, precisely, the last victory of the eagles in Premier League 2-0 at Bournemouth Stadium.
