Diogo Costa was released on Wednesday from the national team’s training camp, which takes place in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras.
The FC Porto goalkeeper has muscle pain and was deemed unfit for the games against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg after tests by the Health and Performance Unit of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
Celton Biai, Bruno Varela’s usual replacement at Vitória de Guimarães and who started his traineeship in the main team despite not being part of the squad, thus becomes part of the group of 25 called up for this double bet.
The national team has scheduled a session for next Wednesday at 5.30pm in Cidade do Futebol, the first 15 minutes of which will be available to the media.
On Tuesday, Roberto Martínez called up all 25 players, including captain Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Diogo Leite and Gonçalo Inácio, the two new faces in the Spanish coach’s options.
The Portugal-Liechtenstein match is scheduled for 7:45 PM at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon and will be led by Norwegian Espen Eskas.
Three days later, Portugal will play the second round of the group in Luxembourg. The grouping also includes Iceland, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
