Former Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet was sentenced to pay more than 880,000 euros for racist and homophobic statements about Lewis Hamilton in a comment and in an interview in 2021.
After much criticism, the former Brazilian driver apologized and said that he used common expressions in the Portuguese language and that they are not offensive.
Justice, however, sentenced him to pay a large fine. More than 880,000 euros will be donated to funds that promote racial equality and against LGBTQIA+ discrimination.
