Miguel Oliveira misses Argentina GP due to injuries after crash in Portimao

Pilot Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) will miss the Argentine MotoGP Grand Prix, the second race of the World Speed Championship, due to an injury suffered at the championship’s opening race in Portimão on Sunday, the Portuguese team announced.

“After the crash at the Portuguese GP [na sequência do choque com o espanhol Marc Márquez, da Honda]Oliveira underwent further tests which revealed additional injuries, preventing him from competing in the second GP of the season.”announced RNF Aprilia in a statement.

That’s what the team points out “Despite the setback, Oliveira remains committed to his goal of being competitive in this championship and will focus on his recovery to return two weeks later in the third round in Austin, Texas”.

The team did not specify what injuries the tests revealed, but on Sunday the 28-year-old Portuguese driver admitted to journalists that he may have injured his hip ligaments.

The injury resulted from the collision of Marc Márquez’s Honda at the start of the third lap of Sunday’s Portuguese GP, when the Portuguese rider was running in second place in the MotoGP race.

The first tests carried out at the medical center of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) ruled out fractures and indicated a bruise on the right leg.

Marc Márquez, who caused the accident, will also miss next weekend’s Argentina race as he suffered a broken thumb on his right hand as a result of that fall.

The GP of Portugal in MotoGP was won by Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), defending champion.
