Portugal makes full and guaranteed presence in the European Under-17 in Hungary

This Tuesday, the Portuguese under-17 soccer team secured qualification for the 2023 Euro Cup, in Hungary, by beating the Czech Republic, in Viseu, 2-0, in a Group 5 match of the Elite Round.

Gonçalo Oliveira, 37, and Martim Fernandes, 55, gave victory to Portugal, who scored the plenary session and won all three games in the ‘poule’, without conceding a goal.

A draw was enough for Portugal to ensure classification and Filipe Ramos’ men gave up the game to their rivals, but the Czechs’ offense ran into the solid defense of the ‘quinas’ team.

Before the goal, in minute 35, Gonçalo Moreira, with a ‘trivela’, sent the ball over the crossbar of the goal defended by Heerkens.

The goal came two minutes later, from a free kick finished off by Gonçalo Moreira on the right, who assisted the ‘heart’ of the area, where Gonçalo Oliveira was faster than everyone and headed into the Czech goal.

In the second half, on 55 minutes, right-back Martim Fernandes found an open path to the goal and, after overcoming the opposition defense, with only Heerkens ahead, had no chances and fired to make it 2-0.

The Czech Republic suffered a hard blow and managed to bother Gonçalo Ribeiro little or nothing, who finished this Elite Round without conceding a goal.

The final phase of the competition will take place in Hungary, between May 17 and June 2.
