Diogo Ribeiro. Another national record and another Olympic minimum

Unstoppable. This Saturday, Diogo Ribeiro won the 100m butterfly at the Portuguese Open in Madeira in 51.45 seconds to set a new national maximum and minimums for the World Championships in Fukuoka and the next Olympic Games.

The Benfica swimmer had already broken the Portuguese records and managed to attend Paris 2024 in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle.

And there is more on the program for the young swimmer from Benfica, who says goodbye to the Portuguese Open on Sunday in the 50-meter butterfly. The distance is not Olympic, but there is great anticipation to know what he can achieve after breaking the junior world record at the world championships in Lima last year and winning bronze on the absolute Europeans in Rome.

Diogo is one of three Portuguese medalists in swimming, along with Alexis Santos (bronze at the 2016 European Championships, in the 200m freestyle) and Yokochi (silver in the 200m breaststroke in Sofia 1985).
