Assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis has been provisionally suspended on Monday pending an investigation into an alleged attack on footballer Andy Robertson during half-time between Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Premier League Referee Board (PGMOL) has suspended Hatzidakis while the agency and the FA are investigating the incident that took place during half-time in Sunday’s game when the assistant referee elbowed the Liverpool player.
The footage shows Andy Robertson, who had been shown a yellow card shortly before the half-time whistle, walked up to the assistant and raised his arm, as if he had lightly touched the player, after which the latter was calmed down by salaat.
“The images speak for themselves,” said Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp afterwards.
Liverpool and Arsenal drew 2-2 in a 30th round match of the English Football League on Sunday, with the ‘gunners’ losing a two-goal lead, in a match that saw goals from Martinelli (08), Gabriel Jesus (28 ), Salah (42) and Firmino (87).
Arsenal lead the English league with 73 points, six more than champions Manchester City, who are one game short, while Liverpool, with a season below expectations, are eighth on 44 points.
