UEFA has appointed Halil Umut Meler to officiate in Turin. The Turkish referee once again finds a Portuguese team in European competitions, after having refereed Benfica-Club Brugge in the Champions League.
As assistants, the Turkish referee will have the compatriots Mustafa Eyisoy and Karem Ersoy and the fourth official will be Arda Kardesler. The French Jerome Brisard will be the video referee and the Turkish Abdulkadir Bitigen the assistant VAR.
Sporting eliminated Arsenal, leaders of the English league, in the round of 16 of the Europa League. Now, they face Juventus, a rival that also reached the competition after being eliminated from the Champions League.
The first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals is scheduled for Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
