The Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges advanced on Monday to the second round of the Barcelona tournament, in which he makes his debut, with a victory in straight sets over the Belarusian Ilya Ivashka.
The day he fell 16 places in the ATP ranking, to rank 79th, Borges easily won 61st place in the world hierarchy, with partials of 6-2 and 6-3, in one hour and 26 minutes.
In his debut in the Spanish tournament, in the ATP 500 category, the national number one played at a high level and dominated the first set, converting three of the nine ‘break-points’ he had, supported, above all, by the effectiveness in the response to Ivashka’s second serve.
Mayato, 26, still saw the Belarusian get the ‘break’, in the seventh game, when he served to close the first set, but it ended, shortly after and in the fourth ‘set point’, putting it 6-2.
Borges’ serve was broken in the first game of the second set, but not ‘fumble’, recovering the ascendant, with two new ‘breaks’, to defeat Ivashka and prepare a meeting with the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, world number. two, who was exempt in the first round.
