Benfica, in the midst of a crisis of results, seems doomed in the Champions League, after losing the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Champions League by 2-0 against Inter Milan. Benfica needs a series of unprecedented records to reach the ‘socks’ for the first time in the ‘Champions era’ (since 1992/93), after the compromising defeat at home.
The eagles have never looked back on a tie that began with a two-goal defeat at home, they don’t count any victory in Italy by more than one goal and the best they managed to face the Nerazzurri was a draw, at a time when they are still facing their worst phase of the season season.
In the last three games, Roger Schmidt’s eleven suffered as many defeats. The first two at home, against FC Porto, 2-1, after having been winning, and against Inter Milan, having lost at Chaves (1-0) over the weekend.
