Sporting fails in the Youth League final after losing to AZ Alkmaar

Sporting missed the final of the UEFA Youth League, the youth championship competition. Leonine’s team played a draw with AZ Alkmaar (2-2) after 90 minutes today, but lost on penalties (4-3).

Callai saved a penalty kick, but could not prevent the farewell to the race after Chico Lamba and Rodrigo Ribeiro fell out from 11 meters. AZ Alkmaar through to the final.

The game even started well. A nice goal from Diogo Cabral gave the lions the lead in the 9th minute, but the Orange turned the score around in six minutes (goals from Poku and Daal) and dominated until the end.

Only a penalty kick brought hope to Sporting, who equalized via Lama and made the decision in a penalty shootout… where AZ Alkmaar was more effective and therefore happier.

The Lions tried to repeat the finals and the triumphs of FC Porto (2019) and Benfica (2022), but failed and remained in the semifinals.
