The Portuguese Ricardo Melo Gouveia was crowned champion of the Abu Dhabi Challenge, a tournament in the second division of the world golf circuit, which ended this Sunday in the United Arab Emirates.
Ricardo Melo Gouveia, who started third at the start of the last lap, took a final round this Sunday in 66 strokes (six under par), as had happened in the previous two, guaranteeing victory in Abu Dhabi.
With two eagles (two under par) on holes 8 and 18, four birdies (one under par) on holes 4, 12, 15 and 17 and two bogeys (one over) on holes 5 and 16, Ricardo Melo Gouveia concluded the Abu Dhabi Challenge with a total of 269 shots, 19 under par, a record that allowed him to outplay his opponents and win the competition.
In the group of 2nd classified were the Englishmen Tom Lewis and Joshua Grenville-Wood, the South African Wilco Nienaber and the Spanish Iván Cantero Gutiérrez, all with -17.
This was the Portuguese’s sixth victory in Challenge Tour tournaments, the first since August 2021.
