Amorim wants Sporting to finish the season with a “winning streak”

Coach Rúben Amorim said this Saturday that “it is an obligation” for Sporting to finish the First Soccer League with a winning streak, to continue against Famalicão, on matchday 30, and start the next season better.

“We haven’t had many opportunities to get that feeling [de sequência de vitórias], so ending this feeling is our obligation. Keeping a clean sheet again is also an objective, against the team that has improved the most since the World Cup, with talented players and high morale. It is between Cup games, but he still has goals in this league, like us. We really want to have a winning streak,” he said.

Seven points behind third place, held by Sporting de Braga, which gives access to the Champions League tie, which is the minimum objective declared by the “Leonese” team, Rúben Amorim pointed out the difficulty of reaching the podium, but said that I wanted to take advantage of the last days to improve and test the team, thinking about the next season.

“We are about to miss the minimum targets, everyone knows that, but we also know that in five days everything will start again. We have a team with potential, which has several shortcomings, but nothing better than taking advantage of each game to improve those differences. The season is not over yet, but they mainly have to think about the future. In five games, we have to be at a much better point to start the next season in the best way”, considered the 38-year-old coach.

Even far from the goals, Rúben Amorim feels that he has the vote of confidence of the Sporting board of directors and fans, which “is strange”, but justified by the fact that he never fed the start, even with polls from other clubs, in previous seasons. .

“I was a coach who, when he won and was up, never encouraged his departure. Now, it seems that I am on the other side of the coin and I am being reciprocated. Maybe the coach spent all the credits this season and I know it’s not going to last forever. Now I receive the same treatment from the fans. They know that I give everything for Sporting and that I defend them with everything. It is not normal for Sporting, which is always on a ‘live wheel’, to have that stability. It’s a sign of maturity and it makes my life easier,” he shoots.

On Sunday, Rúben Amorim will play his 155th game as Sporting coach, surpassing the 154 games he played as a player for rival Benfica. Asked about the club in which he felt most accomplished, the coach opted for the ‘lions’.

“They are different moments in my career. I have a different success here that I did not have at Benfica. Playing for Benfica was a childhood dream, everyone knows it. It is like having two loves, the first more irrational and primitive, and the second More, I never thought I would be here, but professionally, it was the best thing that happened to me by far. If I talk about professional achievement, Sporting is clearly something, because it was something unexpected and that changed my life”, assumed the former Portuguese international midfielder.

Sporting, fourth ranked, with 61 points, will host Famalicão, sixth, with 42, on Sunday, in a match of the 30th round of the First Football League, at the Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon, starting at 8:30 p.m., refereed by Manuel Oliveira, from the Porto association.
