The Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the highest paid athlete in the world, ahead of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé, on a podium made up solely of footballers, the American magazine Forbes announced on Tuesday.
According to the publication, Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the Portuguese team and currently at Al Nassr, in Saudi Arabia, annually receives 136 million dollars (123 million euros) between salary, prizes and bonuses at his club, in addition to sponsorships and use of his image off the field.
Just behind the Portuguese is Lionel Messi, world champion with Argentina and forward for Paris Saint-Germain, with 130 million dollars (118 million euros), followed by Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, also a PSG player, with 120 million dollars ( 109 million euros).
LeBron James, with 199.5 million dollars (108 million euros), has just come down from the podium and is the ‘richest’ basketball player in the top-10, ahead of Stephen Curry, eighth, with 100 million dollars (90 ME), and Kevin Durant, 10th, with 89.1 million dollars (80 million euros).
Still without playing, the already retired Roger Federer, who left tennis last year, appears on this list, in ninth place, with the Swiss earning 95.1 million dollars a year (86 million euros).
