Futsal Champions: Sporting seeks the third continental title against Palma

This Sunday, Sporting can win its third Futsal Champions League, facing Palma Futsal in the final, which eliminated Benfica in the semifinals.

The ‘lions’, champions in 2018/19 and 2020/21, beat the Belgian Anderlecht 7-1 this Friday in the semifinals, a stage in which the Spanish Palma Futsal, hosts of the competition, beat Benfica, by 4-3.

Sporting is in the final for the sixth time in the last seven editions, while the Mallorcan team is participating for the first time in the futsal ‘Champions’, guaranteeing, in its debut year, its presence in the decisive match.

The ‘leonina’ formation has already played four finals against Spanish teams, adding only one win, in 2020/21, against FC Barcelona, a team that defeated Sporting last season, with two defeats against Inter Movistar, in 2016/17 and 2017/18, when the competition was still called the UEFA Futsal Cup.

In the other conquest of the ‘Champions’, the ‘lions’ beat the Kazakhs from Kairat Almaty, in 2018/19.

The final is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., after Benfica tried to secure the last place on the podium, against Anderlecht, in a match that started at 4:00 p.m.
