Nuno Borges falls in the world tennis ranking. Leader Djokovic threatened by Alcaraz

The Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges fell 14 places in the world tennis ranking, to 88, in a list released this Monday and in which the Serbian Novak Djokovic took the lead strongly threatened by the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz.

After reaching the best ranking in the world hierarchy a month ago, reaching 63rd position, Nuno Borges, 26, suffered two heavy falls, despite remaining the only Portuguese player in the top 100.

Djokovic remained in command, but Alcaraz’s five points, in second place, will allow the Spaniard to retake the lead in the next update, needing only to play one match at the Masters 1,000 in Rome.

The basis of Alcaraz’s rapprochement is the revalidation of the title at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, on Sunday, thanks to the victory in the final over the German Jan-Lennard Struff, the 10th title won by the 20-year-old Spaniard.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev closes the podium of the men’s ranking, which registered a single change among the 10 best tennis players in the world, with the rise of the American Taylor Fritz from 10th to ninth place, in exchange for the Canadian Felix Auger-By the way.

Among the remaining Portuguese, João Sousa rose six places, to 156, as did Frederico Silva, who ‘climbed’ eight places, to 215, completing the trio of Portuguese who are among the top 300 on the circuit.

The women’s ranking experienced several changes in the top 10, but the top three finishers remained unchanged, with Poland’s Iga Swiatek holding the lead, followed by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and American Jessica Pegula, second and third, respectively.
