The Emilia Romagna Formula 1 Grand Prix in Italy “will not be held this weekend,” announced the organization of the race in a statement posted on social networks. The race, which was to take place in the Emilia-Romagna region, was canceled due to heavy rain and flooding that have affected the area in recent days.
“The Formula 1 community is thinking of the people and communities affected by the recent events in the Emilia-Romagna region. We also want to pay tribute to the work of the emergency services who are doing everything they can to help those in need. Talks between Formula 1, the FIA President and the competent authorities, including the relevant ministers, the President of the Automobile Club of Italy, the President of the Emilia-Romagna region, the mayor of the city and the promoter, were se made the decision not to celebrate the Grand Prix”, can be read in the Formula 1 statement.
At least five people have died, several are missing and thousands have had to be evacuated by floods caused by heavy rains that have affected several cities in northeast Italy in recent hours.
