Benfica went to the rival Sporting this Sunday to draw 2-2, in the 33rd and penultimate matchday of the I Liga, postponing the decision of the title to the last matchday.
The goals by Trincão, in the 39th minute, after a mistake by António Silva, and by the Ivorian Diomande, with an accurate header in the 44th minute, seemed to push the team led by Rúben Amorim towards victory, the only result that allowed them to continue fighting for third place, but the reaction of the eagles in the second part of the eternal derby annulled that claim.
The second half at the Estádio José Alvalade went to Roger Schmidt’s team, who showed the will to fight after returning to the locker room losing 2-0 and reached the tie with goals from the Norwegian Aursnes, with a header in the 71st minute, and the Primero de João Neves for the senior team, in the fourth minute of added time and after a mess in the area.
One point was rescued for the leader, who has 84 points against 82 for FC Porto, title champion, keeping this edition of the championship tied to the record until the end.
