This Thursday, Portuguese judoka Maria Siderot won the bronze medal at the Upper Austrian Grand Prix by beating Germany’s Annika Wurfel in her fourth fight in the -52 kg category with ippon.

Maria Siderot stood out positively among the five Portuguese who competed this Thursday at the Tips Arena in Linz, with the Sporting judoka winning three matches and only giving up in the semi-finals, relegating her to the battle for bronze.

The judoka (33rd in the -52 kg ranking) was exempted in the first round and then defeated the Cape Verdean Djamila Silva (57th), the Brazilian Yasmin Lima (52nd) and, in the battle for the medal, the German Annika Wurfel (38th). ).

In the final fight, Siderot put in a brutal performance, scoring for waza-ari in the opening seconds, in a move that ended with an immobilization, still within the first minute.

In the semifinals, she lost to Japan’s Kisumi Omori (104th), who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Grand Slam in December last year despite her distant position in the category standings.

In the women’s race, Raquel Brito (50th) also had more than one match, with the judoka from Algés and Dafundo defeating Israeli Tamar Malca (27th), leading up to the next match, in the round of 16, against Slovenian Marusa Stangar.

Ana Agulhas (179th with -57 kg), Rodrigo Lopes (32nd with -60 kg), judoka in the Olympic qualifying zone and Francisco Mendes (99th with -60 kg) lost in their debut matches in the Austrian league.
