Canoeist Fernando Pimenta qualified this Friday for the finals of K1 1,000 meters and mixed K2 500 meters, the latter together with Teresa Portela, of the Poznan World Cup, in Poland.
In the K1 1,000 meters, a distance in which he won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and a silver medal at the World Cup in Szeged, Hungary two weeks ago, Fernando Pimenta was the fastest in his series in the round this Friday, with the clock of 3.37.50 minutes, in which João Duarte participated (3.40.68), who also guaranteed his presence in the semi-finals.
The Portuguese Olympic medalist, who will compete in the final on Saturday at 10:51 am (Lisbon time), then set a second fastest time in the semifinals (3:29.02), just behind Hungary’s Adam Varga (3:27.87), while João Duarte was omitted from finals A and B, with a score of 3.39.41.
In the mixed K2 500 meters, Fernando Pimenta and Teresa Portela, who won bronze in Hungary, were the fastest in their series in the round, with a score of 1:40.83 minutes, securing their direct presence in the final, scheduled for Sunday, guaranteed.
In the K1 500 meters, Fernando Pimenta secured his presence in the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday, a stage for which David Varela (1.42.66) failed to qualify.
In the K1 200 meters category, Iago Bebiano guaranteed his presence in the semi-finals, covering the distance in 35.95 seconds and finishing the series just behind Latvia’s Roberts Akmens (35.30).
The quartet formed by Gustavo Gonçalves, Iago Bebiano, David Varela and Pedro Casinha guaranteed their presence in the semifinals of K4 200 meters, with a score of 1:24.44 minutes.
In K2 500, the duo formed by Gustavo Gonçalves and Pedro Casinha, placed sixth and penultimate in their series in the qualifiers, with a score of 1:32.51, falling out of the semifinals. The Poznan World Cup runs until Sunday.
