Portuguese tennis player Francisco Cabral and Brazil’s Rafael Matos qualified for the second round of doubles at Roland Garros on Tuesday after beating Australians Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler on his debut in the tournament.
In the second Grand Slam tournament of 2023, Cabral, 57th in the ATP pairs ranking, and Rafael Matos, 39th in the world, defeated the Australians, the 15th seed and champion of the last edition of the Australian Open, in just two sets. with the partials of 7-6 (7-4) and 7-6 (7-5), in a meeting that lasted one hour and 58 minutes.
The Portuguese-Brazilian duo will now take on the winners of the duel between Max Purcell and Ben Shelton and Britain’s Julian Cash and Henry Patten, with Cabral coming in on top in his first entry to Roland Garros, having won last not competed in years due to partner’s withdrawal.
