The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, leader of the world rankings, qualified for the semifinals of Roland Garros for the first time on Tuesday, by beating the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Paris major, now against the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz, 20, has placed himself at number five in the world rankings, beating the 2021 tournament finalist in just three setby partials of 6-2, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-5), in an encounter that lasted two hours and 12 minutes, on clay in the second Grand Slam tournament of the year.
Alcaraz, who has already achieved his best result at Roland Garros, will face Djokovic, the world number three, in the semifinals, who defeated the Russian Karen Khachanov on Tuesday and is chasing his third victory at Roland Garros and the 23rd in Grand Slam tournaments, to distinguish himself from Spain’s Rafael Nadal (both with 22).
