The Portuguese women’s football team maintained the 21st position in the FIFA rankings, led by the United States, according to the update released by the organization on its website this Friday.
This position, achieved in the previous release of the ranking, in March, and which, in the case of the ‘quinas’ team, did not change, is the best ever for Portugal in this ranking by the body that governs international football.
The Portuguese team remains ahead of the Republic of Ireland (22nd) and just twenty points behind Switzerland (20th), entering the fate of the top twenty teams in the world.
The list, which did not change the top five positions, is still led by the United States, Portugal’s opponent in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup, followed by Germany, Sweden, England and France.
Still from the March ranking, Spain rose from seventh to sixth place, in exchange for Canada, and Brazil rose from ninth to eighth place, passing the Netherlands.
Portugal is the 13th best European team in this FIFA ranking.
At the World Cup, which takes place in New Zealand and Australia in July and August, Francisco Neto’s men will also compete against the United States, the Netherlands and Vietnam (32nd in the ranking).
