Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) finished 20th on the first day of free practice for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Italy, the race which marks his return to competition following a fracture in his left shoulder.
Oliveira finished the stage with a time of 1.46.565 minutes and finished 1.129 seconds behind the fastest of the day, world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). Also Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) was second, 0.063 seconds off, with Spaniard Alex Rins (Honda) third, 0.081.
Miguel Oliveira was 21st fastest in the morning session, completing just six laps of the Italian circuit at Mugello.
In the afternoon session, the Portuguese rider, who had to miss the previous race, the French GP, due to the injury caused by Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) in Spain, finished 18th, improving by almost 0.8 seconds.
In this way, Miguel Oliveira will have to go through the first qualifying phase, Q1, on Saturday morning to try for a spot in Q2, which groups the 10 fastest on this Friday and the two best in Q1.
The day was also marked by the falls of the Spaniard Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), in the morning, and Joan Mir (Honda), in the afternoon.
Aleix Espargaró, who arrived at this event with an injury to his right heel after a fall while training on his bike, had to drop out to take part in the second free practice.
On Saturday, the third free practice and the two qualifying stages will be held before the sprint race in the afternoon.
