LPFP meets on Wednesday to assess the impact of news on human trafficking

The Portuguese professional football league will meet on an “urgent basis” on Wednesday to assess the “impact” on the organization’s management of news about the president of the general assembly on human trafficking.

“(…) President Pedro Proença has convened the presidents of the other governing bodies (…) for an emergency meeting, to be held next Wednesday, in which to assess the impact of the latest news regarding the President of the Council of the General Assembly, Mário Costa, in the management and stability of Liga Portugal”informed the agency.

These are searches conducted Monday by the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) at the home of Mário Costa, in an investigation prompted by suspicions of human trafficking.

In addition to the leader’s house, a football academy in Riba D’Ave, municipality of Famalicão, Braga district was also searched.

“I calmly await the course of the investigations, confident and confident that the truth of the facts will be established, which will show that no criminal offense has been committed”said Mário Costa in a note to editors on Monday.

For its part, Bsports, which describes itself as “a high-performance academy”, says it is “certain and confident that the truth of the facts will be established, that it will reveal that no criminal offense has been committed by its representatives or employees.” and that only through a mistake or slanderous charge could anyone have thought otherwise”.
