Virgin Galactic said on Thursday (June 15) that the first space tourism flight, called Galactic 01, is targeting a launch window between June 27 and 30. A first step before the launch of a second commercial flight scheduled for “beginning of August” and then other “monthly” commercial flights.
Galactic 01 will carry three members of the Italian Air Force to conduct research in microgravity with scientific payloads. The company of British billionaire Richard Branson sent a spacecraft into space at the end of May, the final test before the start of commercial operations.
Virgin Atlantic said on June 15 that it had completed “routine tests and vehicle inspections” of its VMS Eve mothership and VSS Unity spacecraft.
Virgin Galactic’s first commercial space flight is a milestone in years, and around 800 customers have already purchased their tickets. Finally, the ability to regularly send commercial flights is crucial to the long-term success of the company.
