Voice recognition in vehicles could well benefit from recent advances in artificial intelligence. In the United States, for example, Mercedes has just launched “an optional beta program” compatible with more than 900,000 next-generation vehicles equipped with its MBUX system to integrate the ChatGPT solution.
Activated by voice command
Clearly, US owners of these vehicles can from June 16 and for 3 months, activate participation in this test program. After the “Mercedes Me” application, but also directly after the vehicle, using the commande vocale “Hey Mercedes” (the mots à prononcer pour dialoguer avec l’assistant vocale) you can “je veux rejoindre le programme beta” (in English clear).
Mercedes’ voice assistant is already known for being one of the most efficient on offer in today’s automotive offering. “The driver and passengers can receive information about sports and the weather, get answers to questions they have about their surroundings or even control their smart home,” the German brand’s press release gives as an example.
A smarter “Hello Mercedes”
Yomy The MBUX system relies in particular on this natural side of interactions with a virtual assistant, a bit like Siri on Apple or Alexa on Amazon. When asked what it thinks of a competitor like BMW or Audi, the little voice from Mercedes may, for example, reply with a typical joke: “they are beautiful cars, I like to see them in my mirrors.”
With ChatGPT, Mercedes intends to go much further in the experience, with a system capable of carrying out a conversation.
“Soon, attendees who ask the voice assistant for details about their destination, suggest a new dinner recipe or answer a complex question will receive a more comprehensive answer, all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.” Mercedes said. the statement said.
The premium brand also insists on data control, a form of peace of mind by partnering with Microsoft, which integrates this ChatGPT solution through the Azure OpenAI Service.
“Mercedes-Benz retains full control over background computing processes. The data collected from voice commands is stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, where it is anonymized and analysed,” the document says.
