Microsoft is drawing a line under Xbox One. The American manufacturer is definitely turning the page on the previous generation of consoles. As of now, the group’s video game studios focus solely on Xbox Series X|S.
During an interview with Axios, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, assured that Microsoft has “passed to the ninth generation of consoles.” If the decision seems logical, more than a year and a half after the launch of the new Xbox, it means drawing a line under a park of 100 million installed machines. And this while Xbox Series X | S only sold 21.3 million units in March, according to VGChartz.
Overcome technical limitations
However, it is still not enough to keep your old console in the closet. In fact, no more games from Xbox Game Studios will be released on the Xbox One. But almost ten years after its release, the machine could still serve you well.
Of course, it will not be possible to play FableTO star field or in Forza Motorsport – everything shown during Xbox Showcase – in physical format. But recent announcements from Microsoft suggest a second youth for the 2013 console.
The computer giant has been betting everything on cloud games for a few weeks. Through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, some titles are available when playing on a relocated server. This method overcomes the technical limitations of a machine by focusing performance on the speed of an Internet connection.
Therefore, Xbox One should allow its owners to play new games from all 23 Microsoft studios thanks to cloud gaming. At least that’s the promise of Matt Booty, who wants to “maintain support” for the old generation of consoles. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will impose restrictions to keep its news on Xbox Series X | S.
